Access to Capital to Scale Your Business: A SCE Education S.T.A.R. Workshop

Deciding to acquire capital to grow your business is an age-old inflection point for owners and stakeholders. This course will inform participants about the importance of proactive business planning when considering a loan. The dynamics of borrowing funds from a banking perspective will be explored, as well as strategies to optimize your application to secure funding.

Learning Objective

1) Introduce three main pathways for capital, and compare the respective advantages and disadvantages of each.

2) Determine the funding option that may be best suited to for your needs and your company.

3) Develop a draft sales/marketing plan to use to justify funding.

About the Speaker

Karen Compton has more than 20 years of experience in the architecture/engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry. She has served as Director of Business Development and Director of Marketing for small, mid-sized, multi-office firms, and national and international corporations.

In addition to her role as strategist, Ms. Compton leads A3K Consulting—a consortium of business management consultants specializing in the AEC environment. In this capacity, Ms. Compton oversees a team of professionals focused on the development of transformative solutions that reflect clients’ long- and short-term goals. The team includes experts in finance, accounting, business development, marketing, graphic design and human resources.

Ms. Compton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Mount St. Mary’s University, where she formerly served as a member of the Board of Regents. She also holds an Advanced Management Certificate from the University of Southern California.
